No porkies!
Sadly, many of the pork pies available in the shops – all greasy pastry and grisly meat – are parodies of the real thing, which originated in the Leicestershire town of Melton Mowbray, where Dickinson & Morris have been making pies since 1851. This is the Real McCoy: succulent pork, a layer of jelly and crunchy pastry.
Drinks on the go…
Getting children to eat five portions of fruit and veg can be tricky, but these organic fruit smoothies from Ella’s Kitchen are a great help for packed lunches and after-school snacks. They contain only sieved organic fruit – the Red one, for example, contains strawberries, apples, bananas and raspberries – and certainly got the vote from my children.

The latest charity cookbook to hit the shelves, Soup Kitchen includes recipes from just about every celeb chef and cookery writer you’ve ever heard of, including Jamie, Rick, Nigella and Delia. As the title suggests, this book has over 100 soup recipes, giving you plenty of inspiration over the coming colder months.
Truly Thai
Having spotted Blue Elephant Thai products last time I passed through Bangkok airport, I was delighted to find that they're now available here. The pastes and dipping sauce are authentic in their use of spices, fragrance and depth of flavour and, unlike many brands, the fish sauce is light in colour, so won’t overpower other ingredients used.
