I'd like to recommend this restaurant in Hull: The Boar's Nest, on Princes Avenue. It specialises on game and seasonal, local English food. Very very nice.

Thanks for that Anushka, I shall be visiting my sister in Hull later in the year and will note this one down. Is it expensive? Viv xx
it's my fave restaurant in the whole world!!! love the champagne bar upstairs too.
my only criticism between the first time i went and the last time is that they've bought new tables and chairs so they are all the same (detracts from the charm i think) and that they're so busy!!! the first time we went they took their time with us, let us go upstairs first for a drink while we looked at the menu etc. the last time i went they didn't have time to let us take our time because they were fully booked for 2 sittings. in future i'll be booking a late table!!!
did you have the potted meat and bread anushka?
hi viv - it can be expensive although they also do a set menu deal which gives you some limited choice from the full menu.
IT'S SOOOOOOOO WORTH IT THOUGH!!!

Yes Samcat, I did have the potted meat and bread - such delicious bread! And the dessert was summer pudding. On the menu it came with either ice cream or whipped cream, but as I don't eat either, I asked for it pure, and let me tell you, that treat, that delight of a summer pudding does not need anything else with it, because it's so absolutely scrumptious!
Yes, it is a bit expensive, but we were celebrating: my daughter's graduation (BSc) and her offer of a grant to start her PhD next September and the promise of her dissertation being published. So more than enough reason to celebrate!
