....despite being so late in getting the first veggie plot dug and the first tatties planted mid May; I've just dug up the first 6 plants and have a veritable haul. Just drying off in the late sunshine and then we will weigh them and cook a few for supper. Only another 144 plants to dig up from this crop. These are Stempters which didn't flower and we planted the Charlottes a little later and 6 weeks ago we planted the Nicola (which should have been the first in) which are now flowering.
Picked our first tomato 2 days ago and have had 3 mini cucumbers. Runner beans also went in late and have just started to produce little beans. Biggs

Hi Dolly, the tatties were delicious, had them with salmon tommies and sweetcorn. I love the elephant garlic, we don't have any at the moment. OH pulled a garlic up the other day and it was minscule. We have picked some onions from the garden because the slugs had eaten the flower spike and leaves. They were very lovely, had them roasted. Biggs

Biggs,
First time we have grown elephant garlic....there is a lovely flower on the end of it....reminds me of the seeds of a pomegranate.....do you just let them dry out or what and store?? any tips would be gratefully appreciated....

Hi Dolly, I'd take the flower off so it does not take goodness from the bulb (the flower can produce seeds), dry for a couple of hours in the sun (airing cupboard) and then hang in an airy and dark place until you want to use it. I would think it is dry enough now. Enjoy.
Not got into plaiting the stalks together yet so we tie bundles together. Biggs

Hi Dolly, just got in from the wilderness, done a couple hours weeding in the veggie patch. Off to play (try) petanque in a mo. All this bending and stretching must be good for the waistline, oui ?????????

Hi Biggs,

Enjoy petanque.....good exercise, yes.....
must get outside before the sun goes in.....and have one glass of red before starting dinner....
Have a lovely evening....
