It's said to taste like dry sherry. You can buy it online though.

but yes you can substitue for sherry, don;t use harveys bristol cream, croft original is the best, thats what i use when my rice wine runs out.

Hey!
That's not very far away at all!!! - almost walking distance!
You don't have a dog do you? - we could meet for a dog walk if you do.
Was in Chester Sainsburys earlier - they didn't have the rice wine vinegar you were after - but did have this one Mitsukan rice wine vinegar.....I don't know what the difference is....
I'll let you know if I ever see the other one!

No dog!!
Thanks for looking - it's not the rice wine vinegar. I know I can use dry sherry but would like to try the 'real thing', Maybe it'll have to be a trip to Liverpool!! Plenty of Polish ingredients in Wrexham Tesco - very little Chinese!!

Is it for cooking? If so, why does it have to be Shaoxing? Can you not just use Sake?

Yes, I could. I've been watching Chinese Food Made Easy and was following the recipes.

Just buy any sake - it'll do the same job (and will give you something to drink while you're cooking - chilled in the summer and hot in the winter) Hope you find plenty of scrummy things to cook.
