I've just bought some sea samphire which I lightly steamed - it was lovely ... but I'm sure there must be more recipes! Any ideas and does anyone know how long the season lasts for this unusual treat?
Hi Jane, it's georgous, isn't it. Try typing 'samphire' into the 'search message board' above and you will find other posts on the topic and maybe some links to other sites for samphire receipts. Biggs
Where did you buy the samphire from as I cannot find it anywhere near me. I have seen it in jars in Carrefeur but I want fresh and in London not calais!
By the way, please may I ask how much you paid for it as well.
Thanks so much

Jane, Is that the marsh or the Rock samphire?
Hi everyone - thanks for replies. I think its marsh samphire (it's lovely and a little bit salty and the smell reminds me of all those lovely remote saline estuaries with the evocative sound of curlew and redshanks calling).
I got it from a Paul's Fishbox in Woodbridge (Suffolk) and a large handful cost £2 (there was easily enough for 4 people).
Busy Bee - I'm sure you should be able to find it in some of the London fishmongers - there's a lovely fish restaurant with a fishmongers attached just off the lower end of Regent street - I'll see if I can find the name.
Jane
Oops ... me again! The lovely restaurant/fishmongers that I mentioned was Fishworks and they have a number of restaurant/stores across London and the South West and mail order too - see http://www.fishworks.co.uk/swallowstreet
You probably need to try a real fishmonger - maybe Fishworks as Jane suggested. Steve Hatt in Islington sells it, so does our local farmers' market at the moment and I think I saw it in Selfridges (at a fabulous price I'm sure!)
