Work to start tomorow, although the plumber came yesterday and decided to give the guys a head start. Out came a load of cupboards and the sink! The old fridge/freezer was picked up by its new owner today. Fortunately, it's quite cool so milk is outside - I can't say I'm too impressed with having to run upstairs for water though - or washing up in the bathroom basin. Hey ho, I keep telling myself it will be worth it

By this time next week it will be all done (apart, of course, from the decorating.) My pocket will be a lot lighter too but while OH could fit and do everything himself (and he has done in the past) it would take weeks and weeks. He does a great job but I can't live with a half built kitchen these days. In think he's secretly relieved that the professionals are doing it, he won't admit it though, he just grumbles about "wasted" money! I don't think it's wasted at all.

We've just seen my son and DIL through this, it is more or less finished now and it is worth it but it is a traumatic time. Luckily they live just up the road from us and we were able to help them out with cooking or meals with us but now it is finished (almost) it is almost like giving birth, you forget all the pain when the baby is born!!! By the way, Liz, we have just come down from your part of the world. spent a weekend in Windermere, pretty damp it was too! But I love that region , and even the rain couldn't spoil it for me, going over the Kirkstone Pass is magical. We visited the Beckstone Art Gallery, which I have been to many times, If only I had a few thousand to spare!!! This morning we went into Booth's SM because I had seen it mentioned on here, I wish they were down here, what a quality store!

It will be worth it. I've completed the first phase of our new kitchen and we just can't finalise the 2nd phase. It will be done before Christmas. Love what we have done, working through all the holes in the wall, leaking boiler, the dust. I WILL have what I want when we complete the work. I just practice the deep breathing technique if I feel a tad distraught. I'm sure you will be delighted when the work is completed. Biggs

I will Biggs.
Nenna, I love Windermere, and yes, I'd agree Booth's is a really quality store, actually, they are my favourite butcher/fishmonger (although the Keswick, rather than Windermere store - closer to home being the only reason for the preference.) Kirkstone Pass is brill - have you tried Honister which is like a moonscape, or even (and this is scary) Hard Knott?

Hard Knott, is that the one where you think the car's going to go boot over bonnet Liz? Been there!
I'd have to move house to get my ideal kitchen, you lucky thing. Put a picture on DQ's site when it's done? Dolly has hers up :-) Bramble xxx

Hard Knott Pass is horrendous! Ten times worse than the other two which are lovely. At least in summer! x x

It will all be worth it Liz. Had mine done two years ago and had to move into small bedroom to cook etc. Took 5 weeks as had walls knocked down as well, and RSJs put in. Although seemed an age at the time, looking back it wasn't really. And definitely Worth It ....
It is a long long time since I was up in the Lakes. Perhaps one day will return ....
