nanny thats so nice- i keep trying to remember food my (late) mum used to cook for me- funny but all i can remember is milky-way sandwiches!!- i know she was a good cook and she made those as a treat for me, but cant remember what she really cooked- you're so lucky to have that record xx :-)
Nanny, could you bear to share a couple of those and put them on your profile? If you'd rather not, that's fine, but it would be lovely to see another sample of how people used to cook. I've got a few of my MIL's recipes - most of them wartime, with wonderful names like Cold Lamb in Disguise! That was bits of leftover roast lamb (I suppose they had v. small joints in wartime) in a mint aspic jelly. I've done it with cold slices and I think it's delicious. Some people don't like cold lamb, I know, but I love it. I remember my mother's macaroni cheese as something I've never matched, and her steak and kidney pudding was out of this world. She just 'did it' - no recipe. But I do remember she bought proper suet and grated it. xxxB
Weren't you lucky Nanny, to have had a mother who made such lovely things? We can see where you get it from. Let's have a look at that Leek Mousse!
