Does anyone know?
Wednesday 23 July 00:34

I'm not sure where I should put this... is it a gardening question or a cookery question, or should it be on Can You Help. Never mind, as I'm not sure... I'll put it on Coffee Break!!

This is perhaps a daft question but is the bronze fennel herb that I grow in the garden the same plant as the bulb I buy in the supermarket and slice up and put in fish pie? I've used the seeds and also the foliage... but I don't know about the 'root' or bulb? Or is it an entirely different plant.

Mutton
Tuesday 22 July 22:45

Did anybody see the Farming programme on BBC2 this evening - they were advocating mutton and getting people to try it. Everyone who did was very surprised how lovely it was. Seem's like we're ahead of the game again!

Drumming neighbour  (3 Replies)
Tuesday 22 July 21:22

A neighbour of ours is clearly learning the drums. We have worked out we think it's a teenage girl next door but one although we don't know them at all. It doesn't bother us generally and my OH is understanding as he was a teenage drummer too! The thing is we have a TD8 drumkit which to most people means nothing but it's a few thousand pounds worth of electronic drums. You wear headphones and it has twenty odd settings making hundreds of amazing sounds such as kettle drums, whistles, flares - all sorts of whizzy things. It's amazing. The thing is I have said to OH why don't I knock and ask the young girl if she's like to borrow it for the summer holidays (as it's just sitting doing nothing most of the time). I think it would be a nice gesture and it might be a long time if ever the girl has a chance to use something like that. OH said it might come back broken and I said that's life. I've told him that it would be lovely to do something gracious for somebody. He's almost convinced. What do you think?

Mini Chef
Tuesday 22 July 21:13

Really sweet: Matty came in tonight and asked whether he could cook a meal for my friend Sally. So I made him phone to invite her and she's coming on 4 August. She's over the moon that he wants to cook for her. It makes up for the fact that he pretended he'd washed his hair this morning when he had a shower. Normally it's all bouncy and soft. It was stuck to his head, dull and smelt dirty despite the fact that we have some of that fab smelling Aussie Miracle shampoo. He swore blind he'd washed it but us mums aren't daft are we? I didn't push it too much as there will be far more important things to fall out about won't there? Rather than turning into a nagging mother through his teenage years you have to decide on the real important things to make an issue of.

and one of the replies came from a lady called mary in
new york, a theatrical agent, I mentioned ( for a lark ) that
I had played terry pratchetts, Nanny Ogg in the play Wyrd Sisters. Now, I don't know if it is just coincidence but I have just received an e-mail from America, offering to get me auditions, across the pond, DARLINGS what shall I do? LOL =

I have just seen an airship/zeppelin fly past. I imagine that is the one that your husband and friens were on?

Perfect weather for it.

I took a picture and will send to DQ if you think it was him. It is quite far away in the distance though, so not a great shot.

Lovely day....  (15 Replies)
Tuesday 22 July 11:22

It is lovely here today.....hot and sunny...just got out chair covers and parasol and spotted a wasps nest....sat on edge of fish pond looking at hundreds of baby goldfish thinking..... how am I going to feed you lot and will there be enough room in the pond....and snails, they are fascinating to watch (never thought I would hear myself say that)......meant to be cleaning today but think I will just relax with some books outside and pop back here now and again.....daughter suggested paella for dinner so that's easy, chicken and prawns defrosting as I type.....
what are you all doing today?
off outside to sit in the sun, will pop back later....

What a lovely day  (5 Replies)
Monday 21 July 23:40

Today was so lovely. It's amazing how a bit of sun can lift the spirits. Matty (my son), Ruby (hound) and I went up onto the Trans-Pennine Way (only 5 minutes from me) and sat up on the top of "Hacking Knife" a hill overlooking Manchester, Yorkshire, The Pennines etc... It was right windy but lovely and sunny. We ran round with the dog, took a puzzle book, some chocolate cake and orange juice and it was great. Had to give my juice to the dog cos I forgot to take her any water. House is a tip but it might be raining tomorrow.
