Delia Online (www.deliaonline.com) has launched a community messageboard. This interactive facility within the Delia@Life channel of the site provides users with a forum to share views and advice relating to cookery, food and all things ‘Delia’.
The messageboards were introduced in response to the overwhelming number of e-mails sent to the site, via Feedback, requesting specific advice about where to buy ingredients and equipment, information about alternative ingredients and techniques and a desire by users to share their own tips and advice with the site.
Delia Online launched in March 2001 when Delia Smith expressed a desire to be more responsive to the needs of her audience. Indeed, her recent Vegetarian book was published as a direct result of having been inundated with requests to write such a book via the website.
The introduction of the messageboards means that Delia can see at a glance which issues are important to users of the site and, where possible, will be able to offer her input. This will not only act as a valuable resource for users to share their questions and views with like-minded people but will also enable the editorial team to be responsive to any omissions or additions to the site that address the needs of the users.
Nick Downes, Delia Online’s Commercial Director, says:
“We are extremely excited by this launch as it completes the circle for our 170,000 users. Cooking naturally lends itself to swapping recipes and tips and now whether our users are seeking a substitute for crème fraiche, a restaurant in Venice or an elusive classic recipe they can ask the Delia community for advice at the click of a button.”
