If ever you're on a shopping trip to Calais, I can recommend lunch at Le Blanc Nez. It's about ten minutes' drive from Cite Europe with easy parking outside. They have a website with details.

I am planning to go on a shopping trip to Calais soon with OH and MIL. I have'nt been in ages. Have you been recently? How did you travel, by ferry or train? How much is it these days?
Sorry about all the questions.

Thanks for the recommendation, will look at it for possible lunch.

Morning Meatloaf, We used to use Speedferries regularly. They go into Boulogne, not that far from Calais, and only take 55 minutes to cross the channel. We were able to make a return trip for as little as £50.00 for the car and passengers. I think they do have even cheaper prices on occasion. Biggs

But...I don't think they take foot passengers Biggs, I know some friends who booked five trips at the beginning of the year, return, fo 250 quid. I have not used the service as yet as we have to use the tunnel if we go back to the UK because of the dogs. Viv xx

We always go on the train these days then it doesn't matter what the weather is like for crossing the Channel and the tunnel is not normally affected by the sudden strikes that the French are good at! It's sometimes more expensive than the boat but we treat it as a day out and a car full of cheap wine is a bonus!

Morning Viv, last newsletter from speedferries said they were about to, or had just a introduced, a foot passenger service. Foot passengers are 'ferried' aboard by bus. I think it was £10.00 per person. Biggs

I am so envious of all those of you who live in the South who can consider going to France for a day! Being up in Greater Manchester that just ain't feasible. Boo hoo!

Cheers, I have found a ferry crossing with P&O through the day-tripper website for £20 return....Will be going for the day at the end of the month....

Biggles, your'e thread on the Les Routiers, would I be able to visit a similar establishment near either Boulogne or Calais?

Essex Girl, do you mean the place at the top of the cliffs where you can look out through huge glass windows? We've been there a couple of times and love it. The walks along the cliffs are lovely as well.

Definitely not the same place - it's at sea level - but hope you remember the name so we can try it. I have a feeling the one you're talking about is further down (or should I say up) the road. Could it be at Cap Nez?

Oh, The Dinner Service, with the moving of the Eurostar to St Pancras and the opening on the high speed rail link in the UK it is.!Pendolino down to Euston, one stop to St Pancras and the Eurostar to Coquelles (near Calais) or to Lille. Could probably do the whole thing in little over 3 or so hours! Not sure about costs though. The Virgin Pendolino is so expensive - even if you book way in advance!
