... Cauliflower! Never grown them before as I don't like them much, but we had one tonight, just the size of a cricket ball, and what a lovely taste :-)))

Ohhhhhh, lovely. Well done
I found out why our caulies didn't produce the flower head. Discovered we had planted cabbages :0(
Got some nice cabbages now and some caulies growing, don't look at all similar...... Think I'm still at the bottom of the long learning curve. Biggs
I refuse to grow caulis now after the creepy-crawly episode! Was cleaning one from the garden, a few years ago, and I must have picked out 20 little caterpillars. I know they might be cute (!) but it put me off completely.
My sweet peas are sad looking things this year and so far I don't know why.
Well done Bramble, I have never had much success with cauliflowers and have given up on them in the last couple of years. Anyway, it is a bit hot for them here in my garden and they need a lot of water. Mind you, can't beat the taste of any fresh veg particularly your own. We are currently drowning in a sea of haricot vert and as everyone grows them, there is no one to give them to!! However they do freeze or bottle ok so it looks like that is what I will be doing this weekend! Have a good one. viv xx
PS Do you think you could make haricot vert wine? tee hee
My father-in-law used to store them in loads of salt, in wooden boxes in his cellar, I'd forgotten that, Viv, until just now. He just layered them up whole, with the salt, and M-in-law used to soak them then slice them up as she wanted to use them. Worth a try?
Defo Bramble, will give that one a try. I was not very keen on the bottled ones so will give this a go. Mind you, they do freeze well but I have so many that they take up a lot of freezer space. viv xx
Just wanted to say how good it is to hear so many people growing their own food. These days I'm quite lazy, only grow stuff that costs vast amounts or varieties that are no longer available. Adore cos lettuce but even Waitrose only stock it now and then, this year have a continuous crop. My sons friends had no idea lettuce could taste of anything - how sad is that ?
