Preparation bit faffy for my normal style of cooking- matchsticks of ginger etc.

However, once I had sharpened the knives, no stopping me. My piece of pork was lovely but had some bone in. Managed to cut the piece up OK. Actually doubled the meat recipe as I had bought a kilo piece, thought I might have some meat left over and then I would have to find out how to make Dim Sum.
Comes back to what is a tablespoon? I used my 'usual' tbs and the liquid was a tad disappointing; I was hoping for a coating sort of consistency, but what I had was quite thin and runny. I removed the meat and reduced the liquid while I did the stir fry veggies; this took me a bit longer than the recipe suggested (normal for me as I don't have a wok ring) and I added some water just after adding the broccoli.
I would have liked just a bit of rice with the meal, but I didn't give it a thought (telephone ringing and wine man calling whilst I was in preparation mode). I love rice.

At the end of the day the pork was beautifully cooked, the rind just lifted away; it was not at all fatty; the flavours were gorgeous (took me back to Kowloon (but they were much better cooks than I)). The veggies were a perfect compliment. We was gloriously stuffed.

OH did not moan at all, at the absence of rice, potato or bread. A huge WIN :0)
It is not a dish I will make every week nor every month; but I shall certainly be cooking this again.

2 hours since we finished the meal and I'm still appreciating the flavours, that to me, is a sign of an enjoyable meal

I wonder if it could be cooked in the oven? I might try it. Not a problem cooking on a low gas ring. But......

Hi Dolly. We did enjoy it as it had the 'authentic' flavour. I used a large based stock pan and almost all of the meat was in a single layer. The lid fits really well and I wonder if that's why I had so much 'thin' liquid.
Oh, and I used some Chinese 5 spice as I don't have any star anise. Everything else was as the recipe.

Oops, thanks Samcat. I think I was getting into a bit of a tizz worrying about the meat / sauce aspect that I totally overlooked the mention of rice. Then, I was just focussing on the order to add the stir fry ingredients and totally overlooked the rice.
I'll put that one down to a 'senior moment' :0)
Will def do this again and remember the rice next time !
