Bought 2.15 kilos of paleron (a braiser) in Auchan today, it has been cut into 2 pieces so I'm going to try this on the October cookalong. It was on offer and cost 12.70 euros. Not too bad I thought. They also had some lovely looking shin beef but I don't have too much freezer space free at the moment. Biggs

Thanks Biggs, unfortunately we don't have Auchan here, but will look out for the same cut then we can compare, within the cookalong, (that is if everyone else doesn't mind ?) Also I looked for the wine, without luck but bought another bottle of Italian winefrom Lidl called Montepulciano d'Abruzzo which is apparently " a dry red wine good for enhancing home cooking, as an accompaniment to any well seasoned food, or simply on its own " Time will tell. !! As it is the season for all the "fetes du Vin" in the supermarches they seem to be concentrating on the French produce don't they.
Bon Appetit !

Went to Poitiers yesterday to order my new oven and some kitchen units; I'm sooooooo excited :0) so we were able to pop along to Auchan where I saw the meat. First time I have seen the paleron in such large pieces. We were on an airport run last week and popped into Leclerc in Poitiers and they have the best display and selection I have of wines seen to date (OK, I've not really seen a lot). Actually managed to buy some Tio Pepe (dry) sherry. They also had the chianti, which I will probably use for the cookalong and some rioja.

Yes, quite right Yummy, I do hope people don't mind us joining in but having to make changes to suit 'local conditions'; hopefully, some might find it a bit interesting to find out how our substituting goes :0)

Bon weekend !
