I'm making this as we speak for a party tomorrow. I have bought a couple of plastic storage boxes to transport it and refrigerate it in before putting it into serving dishes at the venue. It has just occurred to me that this type of plastic box may not be suitable for food storage. What does anyone think?

I'm pretty sure it's perfectly safe, I would be doing exactly the same if I were in your position. I will just say..... sounds like a lot of pot salad you have been preparing! Hope it goes down a storm. witty x

Storage boxes are not made from food quality plastic unless it states so on the manufacturers label, they are sometimes made from recycled material.
Nip down to the local chippy or Chinese (your best bet) and ask them if the have a couple of empty cooking oil drums they can let you have, or even the local supermarket deli for their empty bulk containers that they get coleslaw etc. in.

Hi Lin. I'm with John on this one. I often got the empty food containers from the deli and curry counters, make great freezer containers. If you can't get hold of any I would next suggest the foil trays with lids that you buy in supermarkets for use in the freezer; you can get quite large ones.

Maybe if you cannot get other boxes would lining the ones you bought with cling film or foil help?

Thanks guys - it is as I thought. I did nip to the two nearest supermarkets but they couldn't help.

CC - I like the lining idea, think I'll do that.

Jamesey - I've never seen so many potatoes in one place! The parcels will need to be the size of 2 man tents! Perhaps Rob could have a use for them over the Bank Holiday!
