When we lived in the Uk we were awakened each morning by a Blackbird sitting on our rooftop singing the opening tune of The Addams Family !!
This year we have had a Blackbird that we thought had been to the Delia school of songbirds because he started off by singing - Where Are Ya,? Where Are Ya ?? !!
Now he has progressed to What are you Doing ? What are you Doing ?? and it is driving my Hubby BONKERS as he is out there in the garden (more room than the workshop) most days trying to make kitchen cupboards !!
What do your birds sing (if anything) in your garden??
Yummy, Brittany
Yummy, try playing a short piece - or phrase - of music you like, over and over and see if your blackbird will try to copy it. They sometimes do that.
Jerry has been trying to teach the blackbirds the them from 'Close encounters of the Third Kind' for a couple of years now. The birds are smarter than him and refuse to sing it. He keeps trying though
We have a bird that sounds like an alarm clock - I've been very tempted to get an air rifle!!!
;o)
I tend to block out any kind of bird song due to the fact that we have a parrot. If you don't block it out, it will drive you round the twist. Luv, Loopy XXXX
We enjoyed the birdsong at 04-30 this morning, yep, 04-30, bless them.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Have to say though, would'nt have it any other way, especially the blackbirds, I've always loved to hear them.

My mother lives next door to Terminal 5 so our birdies start singing at 3.30! Apparently they're competing with other noise so set off as soon as they can. Blackbird first (he makes it up as he goes along) and then they all gather speed. We also have a flock of cockatiels.....insane.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I agree TC we love to hear the cacophony of the morning chorus......well at any time really. But he is really in need of another piece in his repertoire !!!
We used to have chaffinchs in our garden until my Dad came to visit (sadly he is no longer with us) but he used to sit on the patio in the morning with his Coffee and cigarette listening to, and I quote him , Chippy Choos, as that is the sound they made, later on in the week he said they were saying , Chippy Choo Tres Bien , would you believe !! So now we no longer have Chaffinchs but Chippy Choos !!!
I am sure people must think we are barking !!!
Yummy
The birdies here don't seem to know anything other than their own beautiful songs (Cuckoo excepted!!) We now have birdsong 24/7. It is rare to hear a silence at the moment. If not the birds, then it is the frogs. If I'm out looking at the stars, as last evening, I'm likely to be swooped by the bats. Loving every moment of it. Biggs
We have a blackbird that comes out in the middle of the night (;o) when I'm going to bed) when the security light comes on when I let Bentley out last thing. He sits on the clothes line in the spot light and does a song and dance routine... he sings his little heart out. He's probably saying, who switches that flippin light on?! We have a flycatcher that pushes a squeaky wheelbarrow round the garden and drives us crackers. Oh and we have another bird that has mimicked our telephone... you can imagine how annoying that one is when you're in the garden and run up back to the house to answer the phone only to find it's not ringing!
Honey :-x
Loved that one about the bird who mimics the telephone Honey, You will have to get a phone that you can change the tune on, I bought one in the Uk last year that you can change to about 6 different tunes (bit like a mobile phone) and we can have jingle bees at Christmas !!
Yummy
Oops!! should be Jingle Bells !!
Yummy, love the story about your late dad and the chippy choos.
I love the early morning birdsong, especially when it's really really early, when it's cool, clear and very still outside. We used to have a song-thrush who we nicknamed the "Siren Bird", because it always sounded like a police siren. We were convinced that it was mimicking the police cars!
It`s the coo coo coo of the wood pigeons that wake me up.
oh god, pigeons - we had a nest in the guttering above the bedroom window in our old apartment in the UK and they used to coo like mad all morning - used to drive my husband bonkers when he came home off a night shift and was trying to sleep!
Our swallows fire up at four-thirty in the morning too, but I can't complain after waiting so anxiously for them to come back :-) The other early bird is the pheasant, I just wish somebody would get an oil-can to him!
Ha ha ha..... I've got this fantastic mental image of Bentley sitting on the washing line doing a song and dance routine - thanks for that Honey - that'll keep me giggling all day :o)
