I'm not sure where I should put this... is it a gardening question or a cookery question, or should it be on Can You Help. Never mind, as I'm not sure... I'll put it on Coffee Break!!
This is perhaps a daft question but is the bronze fennel herb that I grow in the garden the same plant as the bulb I buy in the supermarket and slice up and put in fish pie? I've used the seeds and also the foliage... but I don't know about the 'root' or bulb? Or is it an entirely different plant.

Hi Honey - I was curious so googled and found this fascinating page.

Looks like it may be different.
I recall being served venison with fennel, cauliflower and mash at a place in the Lakes. Struck me as odd having all whitish veg!

Fennel does grow from a bulb Honey but I do not think the bronze fennel is edible. I just use the foliage for decoration with fish dishes and the seeds in spice mixes. Viv
Thanks Elpe and Viv. That website is very interesting Elpe. Answers all my questions thank you. It seems I can use the foliage and seeds as a flavouring, but it's not the same plant as the bulb. Looks like it might get rid of my wrinkles too!!
"Fennel face pack - chop Fennel leaves and add to plain yoghurt. Spread mixture on the face, leave fifteen minutes and rinse off with warm water. This preparation will cleanse and stimulate the skin and smooth out wrinkles. Use once a week."
I have some yoghurt, so Angel and I might try that tonight!!

That sounds very useful. Must grow some fennel next year :0))))))
