Is your attic /loft space full of junk or stuff that you really want but have no space for in the house ? Mine has suitcases old records why? and videos we dont have any means of playing them .Some books and not much else . Susan xxx
In theory it holds suitcases, Christmas decorations ans suitcases - in fact it holds stuff that came from my MIL's house that she didn't want to throw away, DPs sentimental stuff, imental stuff and a box or two of soft toys! When I got the suitcases out to go on holiday couldn't open one because it has a combination lock - about to throw it away when we realised it has someting inside it! Waiting for magic or someone who knows the default combination for a Ronco suitcase!
susan- i dont have a loft or an attic at the mo (or even a 'proper' house!!) i had a big clear out when i left the UK but i still have boxes of stuff in my neighbours garage and friends loft and its mostly books and records (and my denby dinner service is somewhere but i can't quite remember where, which is a bit worrying!) :-) it's such fun when you go through it all tho and find all the things you'd forgotten about- i found my old diaries recently from when i was a teenager- they are totally hilarious!!
My loft is like yours Susan but it's full of other junk too. OH and I keep promising ourselves we will clean it out and we do go to make a start but I can't bear to lose the books, vinyl LPs and OH has his power tools there, which of course we wouldn't throw out. However, the biggest cause of "junk" is old computer stuff, both hardware and software. I think we must decide that at least that lot goes!
Haven't got a loft Susan as got a conversion, but 'things' went into the garage. Last year got a skip and threw out loads and loads, unfortunately could do with another one. I have lots of records that I keep meaning to put on the computer somehow - lots of 45s from 60's (sigh reminiscing!) plus OH had lots of LPs and I have all Buddy Holley's albums but not sure what to do with them. Anyone interested ? Also Rupert Bear Annuals ?
Merrie xxx
Put your old vinyl on e-Bay Merrie. It may be worth something.
Merrie I would take them to a charity shop or Freecycle them . Susan xx
I have been going through my share of what was in the family loft, yeeks..........
Four months later I am still plodding through it all! The charities have done quite well out of me.
Cleared our attic out last year, after about 20 years! Lost count of how many trips we made to the tip. Down side is now OH will not allow me to put anything else in it - what's the use of an attic if you can't put anything in it ?!!!
FF :-)
Used to keep the Christmas dekkies in the loft. Don't have a usable loft space here. Still have several boxes to unpack (one year) and yes we moved with many LP's but have not had a record deck for years and zillions of videos which we never watch. Would like another record deck, I think?
At the moment my life is a nightmare, we are "sorting " ours out. Most of our rooms have boxs out of the loft in them. The pile for the charity shop gets bigger day by day, the car knows its way to the tip and I have even started to have dreams about it. It's like that scene from Mary Poppins where she takes all that stuff out of her bag, only ours is coming down from the loft. How did it all get up there? apart from the kids toys, and maybe the pram, with one new baby and another due soon, I have found no use for any of it. I think that when I die I will be buried because I have feeling I might end up in there too.
Just Bats in ours (and I don't mean Cricket!!!) Dottie Mayx
don;t have a loft.
when we did, the only thing init, was our christmas tree box and 2 boxes of decorations.
Have never been able to abide "stuff" and keeping "stuff" cos it may come in handy one day.
I think that stems from when i was living at home.....Dad is a hoarder, and won't throw anything out.
Saying that, I have got a box of videos, which I am ditrubuting among the charity bags that come round every month or so.
will never give my records up....even brought a cheap turntable to play them on last year.
Not too much as we live in a chalet bungalow so loft space is limited to the eaves. Decorations, suitcases, a box of old curtains, spare duvet and towels (for when the girls move out) and a couple of boxes of books. Oh yes, and all of hubbie's walking gear. Decorating the dining room as well so the "drinks cabinet" has been moved to the eaves cupboard(obviously the one that is easiest to get to).

Shergar and Lord Lucan could be up in my loft, I never go in there.
Love my old vinyls Susan, well worth buying a deck to play them on!!
