Afternoon all. Picking up on crumbs thread on FF's Old Favourites Re-visited I have 4 cats that are all little fiends if they think we are not looking.....one loves anything with cheese, one is mad for homebaked bread, one mad for hob nob biscuts and one pines for chilli....! I also have a friend whose cat loved water chestnuts and liking yoghurt pots tops. Any more fiendly 4 pawed stories?
That's funny Lainey. My Heidi (border collie) doesn't steal food (unlike Bailey) but she's a bit of a magpie with my stuff. If I lose anything, I always look in her bed under the pillow. I've found a windproof lighter, tube of handcream, a watch - don't know why she does it. I have a parrot that crys like a baby for chips and hob nobs - he won't pack it in until you let him have one - you have to give in as he gets on your wick! XXXX
No longer have animals but used to have a cat I caught on the kitchen worktops putting his paw into a pot of ragu sauce then licking his paw. He was a white cat so even if I hadn't caught him in the act, his red-tinged paw would have given him away!

my cat Geri likes to spoon the water out of her dish with her paw all over the floor. to add to this mess she picks her food up with her paw in small chunks then flicks her wrist and sends it flying. about half of these flung pieces of cat food get eaten, the rest are left for me to pick up.
no idea where she got the habit from but no amount of scolding will stop her. it's not all the time but enough for me to have to clean the floor around her dish every day.
My friend Ann had a one legged turkey on Christmas day a couple of years ago. She had left it defrosting & never gave a thought to the cat when she went out shopping. Came home to find it on the floor minus most of its leg. Don't think raw poultry is good for animals but the cat survived.
We used to have a cat who adored toffees.
My husband had to chew one then give her a piece. Trouble was, we had to hide the wrappers as she used to try to get them out of the bin to lick.

I had one Siamese cat that used to lick the cream of the tops of scones when you weren't looking. And another that came home once on a Sunday lunchtime with a very nicely cooked leg of lamb (I kept my head down in the neighbourhood after that for a while)
Present problem is GD Puppy - who is not happy unless he has a sock in his mouth. He doesn't chew them or eat them - just likes to carry them around. Steals them from wherever he can. When he goes we are going to send his favourite sock with him!
Bentley (our retriever) never helps himself to anything, you could leave a joint on the work-surface and he wouldn't take it. When we feed him he won't eat it until you say "eat it". But it was a different story with our boxers... nothing was safe with them. One even ate half a pound of butter!
Loopy, our Bentley decides when he needs a pill for his arthritis. He doesn't cry like a baby, but he behaves like a naughty child (empties the waste paper basket in the study or picks up something he knows he shouldn't have) until he gets your attention and then he sits and stares into your face until you relent and give him one. He does the same when his ears are bothering him (they get red and inflamed because of certain allergies) he comes and shakes his ears to show you what is wrong. If you don't do what he wants he starts jumping around like a bucking bronco and drives you crackers and eventually you give in. He's even started eaves dropping in our conversations and can pick out the words, "pill and ears" in a sentence and then there is no stopping him because he knows you're on his wavelength and can't ignore him.
It is interesting about hiding things and it's only your things Loopy. I've noticed that Bentley loves to walk around with something soft in his mouth and if he can't find his cuddlies, he will find one of M's slippers that's left outside the workshop... mine are also equally handy but he knows better than to go for mine. :o) Who is the boss I wonder... are you the softy?
Honey :-x
That's amazing about Bentley, bless him - loved the photo by the way. Heidi wasn't too well yesterday and she came and told me. I knew she wasn't right and was going to the vets regardless but she came up to me, wagged her tail really low and looked into my eyes very soulfully. Bailey cut is paw open one time and came to me, lifted it up for me to look at. Asked him if it hurt and he more or less nodded at me!
No, I'm not the softy - OH is - I'm the boss Honey funnily enough. Heidi and I have a really close bond so it must be something to do with that. Bailey is cool too but he's a bit less fussy who he gives his attention to.
Luv, Loopy XXXX
Forgot about Kaz - my previous GD puppy.....
We once went shopping and when I came to unpack I couldn't find the eggs - eventually I came to believe I must have left them at the till
That was until the next morning....when the little speckles of egg shells that appeared when Kaz went to the toilet told me the real story of the disappearing eggs.
We've been very fortunate with our cats - we've always disciplined if they ever so much as looked at jumping on any tables or counters and have never taken any food left out.
The snake is worrying me though as he's found a way of opening the sliding door on the viv and has got out twice recently!!!! Viv is sellotaped up, but this thread has reminded me to order a wedge for the door!
have you thought about getting rid of them?
Sorry!!!!!

my first cat was a dreadful thief....we even found him shut inside the fridge sat on the shelf next to the remains of a cooked chicken! ....we got a lock on the fridge after that.
he also adored raw mushrooms.
I grew some chillies from seed once, they flowered and the chillies were growing beautifully, just beginning to ripen, and then i noticed they were all gone, Monty, our other cat had eaten them straight off the plant. He also loved hot spicy stuff like curry and chili con carne.
Of our current cats, Oscar has never stolen a thing, he has beautiful manners....of the other two, Faerie is quite well mannered but likes cheese so she will go for that if it is out, her particular fave is a cheese triangle.
Her brother Reuben is a complete dustbin, he goes mad if you open a tin of beans, he will drink the sauce and eat the beans, or sweetcorn.
His latest thing is broad beans....we picked loads recently and were podding them in the garden, he had his head in the bowl scoffing them, and when they are cooked he adores the outer skins.
He likes mushrooms too and caterpillars...we caught him picking those off the nasturtiums.
All our dogs have been fairly sensible, although Ludo was terrible for stealing.
My dog Joe, who has been in dog's heaven for 22 years, but is always in my heart, was crazy for sweets, and I had to be extra carefull when I was eating cake. I had to held the plate up high, or risk him jumping and taking the cake. Once I was so ashamed, I was walking him, and met a friend who was with her small child. The boy had some cookies in his hand, and Joe felt the lovely smell and grabbed the cookies from the child. The poor thing cried his eyes out, both for his cookies and from the scare. He also loved coffee with milk and buttered toast, half of my breakfast was his.
Now, I have a cat, and he was never interested in human food, except raw fish and boiled shrimp. Once I left a packet of fish fillets on the counter to defrost and went out for some reason, when I came back, it was no longer there. After a search around, I found it under the dinning room table, and Tico laying beside, very frustated because he didn't manage to break it open, he was just enjoying licking the defrosting water and the scent of fish.
Whenever I 'm peeling boiled shrimp he never fails, he can be in the other end of the apartment, but somehow he can smell it, and comes running to my side. If I try to ignore him he claims my attention by lifting the front paws and placing them on the edge of the table and moans. Of course, I always give in, I can't resist his charm...
Hi James, are you back so soon ?
Time does fly!
Good to have you back!
